Since you write you are still working on this, my bug report is perhaps too soon, but I give it a shot anyway:

With the non-flash MyIDE I get the message that there are no Menu's on the disk, they also do not work when pressed help.
With the previous version (4.8.03) the menu's and image mode do work with the same configuration (same MyIDE interface and same CF card).

When I use the AtariMax 1Mbit + Ide version ... I get the same Error message (no menu's on disk), and when I press start at the powerup screen... the AtariMax Flash cartridge is rebooted (just like when I press START) and that Flash menu appears.

"No menu's" means also disable HELP and START.
So that is correct.
The message comes when the MyBIOS and MENU's don't not have the same firmware.
Did you update with SETUP too?

What are the pros and cons of the ROM version against the Flash version?

Both are a "replacement OS inside the Atari".

ROM-versions.
For all types of MyIDE, supports FLASH-content of MyIDE-I and MyIDE-II
This is a replacement OS for inside your atari.
Use SETUP to install MENU's and SIDE on your IDE-device.
(Hold SELECT in the bootscreen, then press I to disable IDE)

Flash-version.
For all types of MyIDE, supports FLASH-content of MyIDE-I and MyIDE-II
But special build for the ATARIMAX 1mb + IDE cartridge.
R1 is a replacement OS for inside your atari.
F1 is a packed BIOS to be used with your ATARIMAX STUDIO software.
All MENUs are loaded from FLASH.

[edit mr-atari]
pro: Flash loads the menu from flash, so you do not have to run SETUP on each CF-card you have :)
con: Without a flash cartridge, you loose the menu's.

Still working on the code for version 5 (not 4c anymore)
Running in issues never encountered before.
Just like Star Trek in deep space :)
Guess I need another week perhaps....... It's really not easy.

The most important (and probably only) reason to chose for ROM inside the atari, instead of Flash version is that the ROM version is a lot more compatible.

It looks all a bit complicated, but in fact it is not:

1. When you only wants to run .XEX files, you do not have to use the MyBIOS at all (not ROM, not FLASH), since the 'FAT32 loader' is a native loader dedicated to the hardware and FAT32 partition.

2. When you also want to use disk images (= emulation of disks) for games that do not exist as .XEX version, you need the MyIDE IMAGE loader. This works great, but you'll notice that a certain amount of titles will not work with the Flash version of the MyIDE OS; why? Because the FLASH version of the MyIDE OS is using RAM from your Atari computer; some games/demo's also use this RAM; those games will overwrite the MyBIOS, and your atari will freeze. This does not happen when you have the MyIDE OS (MyBIOS) in Rom installed inside your atari. All RAM that is usually availble for games, is available now.

3. Another benefit of installing the MyBIOS in ROM inside the atari, is that you can use spartados disk version (3.3a). That won't run from Flash OS.

But... there is another side of the story. A big benefit of NOT installing the ROM inside the atari, is that your atari stays original. So as soon as you remove the MyIDE interface, your Atari is just like it was before, so you can run all software. Although the MyBIOS in ROM is very very very compatible with the original Rev. 2 Xl/XE OS, you'll experience some very slight problems when trying to run 100% of the software (I'd say that 99.5% of all software runs on MyBIOS when the MyIDE cart is not attached).

That's in a nutshell the differences.

I'm amazed that you can keep all these versions "straight" -- and all the different code iterations. Then after several months of not using the code...

I'll refrase my question.

What is the difference between:
MyBIOS-R1-20130111.ROM and MyBIOS48RE.rom

Mr.Atari, if I understood you correctly, you can use the MyBIOS48RE with *any* MyIDE.
And to get the Menu's you have to use the Setup.Atr.

But if you have a MyIDE+Flash, it's better to use the R1 version. And use MaxFlash studio to upload the menu's to.

It that's correct, than I understand :-)

But as "thewiz" is saying, I'm amazed too.
There are many different versions out there.
How do you keep track of all the changes? :P

Post subject:  Re: MyBIOS 4.8: -RE -RI -DE -DI [18-jan] -FI -FE

R1 is dropped from today and F1 is replaced by FI and FE.
MyBIOS loaded from (any) flash and MENU's loaded from FLASH too.
Side is included.
Same LETTER-code:
xE=external D500 IDE
xI=internal D100 IDE

x can be D R or F
D=DISK
R=ROM
F=FLASH

Difference between Rom/Disk and Flash is that the MENU's are loaded from IDE or FLASH.
Both Disk/Flash run from OSRAM.

P.S. I'm going to split this topic to remove your posts from the download area :)

As steve replied that in his FAT32 loader attributes are respected, this might work good (not tested yet with Mac OS X), so I am wondering: will this loader also be released for MyIDE I

MyIDE-I has no SRAM so the current FAT32-loader from Steve will not work.
No idea if he is working on a MyIDE-I version, guess not, since the production is discontinued.
You can use the latest SIDE-loader patched for MyIDE-interfaces though.

Normally (people who take the effort and solder), you would replace the original BIOS by a DUAL-BIOS and a switch.
Original AND custom.
