Post subject:  MyIDE-I and SD cards?

I've been doing some experimentation this weekend with various adapters and the original MyIDE+Flash cart.

I've come to the conclusion that SD cards with the MyIDE-I are "iffy," as opposed to rock-solid with virtually any CF card/adapter. Is that true, or or there certain adapters/cards that work better than others? I can set up 4.8.05 and have it work reliably for several power cycles, then -- the MyIDE fails to recognize the card.

Is that what others have found?

Thanks,
Larry

I guess I get to answer this myself...
I've found that if I use one of the CF to SD adapters (that looks like a "thick" CF card), I get good results. I had a couple of SD cards that were flakey with the (other type) IDE to SD adapter, but they work reliably with the (above) adapter. This does involve using a second adapter -- in my case, an IDE to CF adapter then using the CF to SD adpter, but definitely seems to work better. Definitely sticks up higher than a Transcend DOM, but not so high that it would block my view of the monitor. Incidently, I've used this same type of CF to SD adapter since day one of with the MyIDE-II, so I'd say the long-term reliability is good, too.

Been to Austria on holiday / retro-weekend :-)

I use a no-name cheap (green) SD/SDHC SD-IDE adapter.
Works on all systems I have.

One bug you have to face:
Write is buffered by the adapter.
So when you write and do not read anything after and power down: You will loose this sector.

Also I noticed some adapters do LBA+1 after a successful read, making the verify-logic going berzerk.
Since it thus tries to verify the next sector.....
