Hi please can someone help me ? I have one of the early MYIDE carts that i bought back in 2003 from Sijmen and he also provided me with a hard drive already setup with partitions and multi boot games on.Now the thing is i have set it all up like i used to but now the hard drive is not responding or initialising so the first partition is not showing 0001.
I have dug out another ide hard drive which is 80gigs and i need some assistance on setting it up using the early myide 3.1

I have read in the manual to test the hard drive first with SCANDISK.BAS and CHKDSK.BAS
I need to start with startup with your DRIVERdisk and BASIC enabled. Then run SCANDISK.BAS

What is my DRIVERdisk? Do i have to load MAST31-B ATR first then load the UTIL31 ATR ?
I have tried loading the UTIL31 ATR and once there i press * then press L then load SCANDISK.BAS and i keep getting an error --108
Also i am told the myide 3.1 patch is not loaded in memory so how do i do that ?

Any guidance is much appreciated ;)

Hi Andrew,
*The utility disk is stand-a-lone. No drivers needed.
Just run fdisk.bas, nothing else first.
*Master only loads the bios. Then you need to continue.
Any dos disk will do fine.
Grtz, Sijmen

Utily disk runs from basic.....
So boot into basic first.
load"d:fdisk.bas"
run
or
load"d:scandisk.bas"
run

OK The 80gig hard drive is not compatible or something because it gives two parameters then i get an error so i scrapped that hard drive and went and put the original hard drive in that Sijmen did for me and after typing in load"d1:fdisk.bas" then run i get the full parameters of the hard drive.
cylinders :977
heads :10
sectors :17
partitions 0
image load off
cyl/image 0
optionbyte off

This is the drive that has stopped initialising and booting to 0001 which is what it used to do before and then i could flick through the hard drive with the joystick.
I see its reporting zero partitions so is this the reason why the drive has stopped booting ? Do i need to make new partitions? There was 0001 to 0014 where used by multiboot disks, all games.
0015 was free (+upwards)

D2=43350 sectors

This drive seems its not dead after all ???

Hi again,
I have found another ata hard drive and its 1gig and i have done exactly the same as before and this drive is working too!

the parameters are :
cylinders 2112
heads 16
sectors 63
partitions 0
image load OFF
cyl/image 0
optionbyte OFF

So if you can help me set this drive up first that would be great :)

I have done a quick scan on the hard drive and it reports NO ERRORS FOUND

I then continue to load"D1:unichk.bas" then run. I then choose External I manually enter HEADS 16 SECTORS 63 CYLINDERS 2112

Now its asking STARTING CYLINDER ? Do i enter 0 or 1 ??? The reason i ask is because i have seen a video and having to manually enter parameters oppose to Auto detecting ??? And manually inputting 65535?

I only want to use this 1gig hard drive as 1 partition and then i can add games as i go.OR do i have to add each partition with the maximum 65535 ?

Skip testing, no errors looks ok.

But plz make your mind up.
3.1 is prehistoric....
4.8 is more modern, menu controlled.

Just skip and do the quickguide to setup and install 2 partitions.

Oh, and your old harddisk seems fine.
It -just- lost its partitiondata.
Did you install mybios 4.8 on this drive?
Anyhow if you run fdisk and create partitions as it was, all is fine again.
fdisk only overwrites the partitionsector, no user data.

And I would seriously advice you to think about switching from physical harddrives to cf-card.
CF is much more workable and works great with the pctool for transfering atr's

Succes,
Sijmen

Hi Sijmen i totally agree with switching to cf cards for the atari xl i have been using cf+sd cards on the amiga for a long time.
When i bought the myide interface back in 2003 with you sorting me a hard drive out prevented me from actually working stuff out myself so i was very lazy. The interface and atari was put to oneside and every now and then i dig it out to play. The myide interface is old considering how the myide-II uses cf cards and is easier i just wanted to have a bash at this before upgrading.

when you say use 4.8 i tried that and not sure if i have been downloading or using the correct one can you link me to it please and i'll try it out.

Do i click on MyBIOS 4.8.05: -RE -RI -DE -DI (5-feb) -FI -FE (7-feb) Then download MYBIOS -DISK.ZIP

Yes, that is correct.
Downbelow in the topic you find the -DE mybios.
Remember this is the bios nothing more or less.
With the bios installed, continue the manual and setup a partition etc.

the link i send before is correct.
you already installed it once.
and did not know what to do when booted it.
the mybios welcome menu....
continue there and do the quickguide.

as dos disk, use a stock mydos.

One remark on the -DE version of Mybios 4.8.5

In the quick start, swap the first 2 steps.
so first boot mybios, using the loader disk.
then put mydos in drive 1
continue with the manual

later,
Sijmen

Thanks for your help Sijmen i am scrapping the whole thing its just not working out for me i am to much of a novice!

I don't understand the quick setup guide? at the beginning it states to Put the MyDOS disk in drive #1 (Physical drive or sio2pc/Ape).
Boot your Atari, with MyBIOS.
When the BOOT-MENU appears: Press and hold START+SELECT+OPTION.
You should enter the MyIDE_MENU.

What i am doing is putting the SETUP48DE in the drive 1 and booting then on screen it asks me to remove disk and reboot so i then put the LOAD48DE in the drive and press reset which then loads to the MYBIOS-DE 4.8.05 I then press the option select start together and nothing happens? I don't go to any setup screen?

I am not up on using Atari dos or mydos i can do the most simplest of tasks like formatting and copying but thats it!
I don't know where MYDOS is within the 4.8.05 to put in drive 1 apart from i have a mydos 4.50 of my own that i downloaded as an ATR

I am getting frustration with this now I am really trying here but i hear your frustration you teaching me to suck eggs! Serious Sijmen i am trying!
I can successfully get the MYBIOS 4.8.05 screen up and thats it? I don't know where the mydos disk is within the download?

Sorry :(
