Is it possible to copy ATRs direct to the hard drive(after partioning and formatting via Myide etc) - through my PC, as I do not own a SIO2PC. Can I plug this into my PC and copy ATRs accordingly, or even using say Knoppix Linux?

Not with the MyIDE interface. I think the SIO2IDE interface offered elsewhere can do that.

Personally, I'd get a SIO2PC setup. They open up pretty much the whole Atari software library to your machine, as well as make transferring anything to your 8-bit easy as pie. Steve sells them here, excellent easy setup interface. I've got one on my machine right now.

Thanks for the reply, but what I ultimately meant was - can Windows XP read the hard drive formatted by MyIDE. So I can copy ATRs through Windows(as If I installed a new IDE Hard Drive?)

Hi Tim,

MyIDE format is completely different from a PC. Also you need
to remember that MyIDE is 8 bit transfer as for a PC it's 16 bit.

If somebody can write a program that writes ATR-files to
cylinders, heads, sectors of the harddrive (using the
specifications for MyIDE), then, theoretically, it could work.

For now, we haven't got this program, so you are limited to
SIO-copying. Directly from a diskdrive or by sio2pc from
a image.

Cheers,
Sijmen.

Yeah, SIO2IDE does allow you to do exactly that. I liked the concept of the MyIDE interface better so I bought this instead.

MyIDE is 10 times faster then SIO2IDE...............

MyIDE can do 100 k/s :-) Don't believe it? Go to my homepage
(www.mr-atari.com) and click on the matrix picture.

You see a (short) video-capture of my 800xl showing the matrix-reloaded movie.

Have fun!

Thanks for the replies, now I have a better insight in what I need. So I've just bought me a Sio2pc as well, as I don't want to rely on the old 1050. I imagine this will pack up one day, and will be a hassle to get fixed\find another one.

If any has a power pack for a 1050 disk drive, let me know!

The 1050 only needs 9 Volt AC. This only a tranformer, no electronics.
Must be easy to buy (new). You can use the wires of your old PSU.

Thats true, but I do not own the original power pack.

My lack of any electronic knowledge certainly doesn't help the situation. I ended up walking around my local town with explaining that I needed a 9v AC transformer (at least 1.5A) with the connector. I approached the local electronics shop, and they couldn't help me!?!? which seemed bizarre.

I know you can get universal laptop power supplies on ebay for laptops which will be my last resort.

Though in my honest lack of knowledge, I do have a laptop power AC supply with 15v - and 3A with the correct connector. But I haven't plugged this in as I'm worried what the results will be? a fried 1050 disk drive?

If that's what you are considering, why not just buy a power supply for a 1050 off ebay? You can usually get them in the range of 5-10 US... at least I've bought several for about that in the past.
