I believe that the zip drive requires an ATAPI interface, which the MyIDE hardware/software doesn't provide.

I had a lot of 100mb disks. It would have been sweet and easy to back up.

I've got an LS120 floppy drive that I'd like to try, but I think it will probably be the same issue. I'm not an expert, but I think the problem is two-fold: no ATAPI interface, and only 8-bits.

I think you can get IDE-to-ATAPI converters...I wonder if that would work.

Hi Guys,

Atapi is unfortunately not possible to drive with the current hardware.
In the ATAPI-standard you need to send a (16bit) command packed to
tell the device what to do. That itself is not a problem, since you can
send only the lower 8 bits as a command. But, the lower 8 bits are
only audio-related commands. Play track, open/close drive etc.
Nice to show-off you can remote-control a CD-unit ;-)

To access read/write you need the (some of the) top 8 bits.

I haven't got time just now, but you could make a converter to
connect the 8 address-lines the MyIDE sends out and connect them
with the only relevant address-lines you need to speak to the device.

Just a thought from my side.

I have the ATAPI-commands for a philips dualspeed writer in pdf
When somebody needs it, I can post it.

Cheers,
Sijmen.
