Also i forget to respond at your question : "After you used save&exit in fdisk, you do not get the message "HD-error!" ?"
Yes, also if don't power off and re-enter in FDISK menu immediatly.
"with shift+control+D you can bypass ANY device and enter FDISK to init it."
No it's only possible with the last device i used as i described.
See you ..

The last thing we can do is to connect the accessable drive to your pc and use a sector editor to manaually setup a myide-partition table. Then use the myidetool to transfer mydos5.43 to d1 and see what happens later on the atari. If it works to save data on the pc and later not on the atari, there is a issue with the interface. Did you contact steve already? back later, have to digup some info how to setup.

yes, not easy.....
With a sector editor edit the WD CAVIAR 136 BA. Access absolut sector $00000 erase the sector and enter the first 3x16 bytes manually. FE 00 03 00 0F 00 3F 00 02 00 03 00 01 00 02 00 01 00 01 00 03 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 03 00 05 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 save this myide setup (ide-size, d1 and d2, both sd, image mode enabled)
Then open a command-box and use the find device line. myidetool --list Note the drivenumber of your WD CAVIAR. Then copy the mydos.atr to partition 1 like this: myidetool \\.\PhysicalDrive2 -p 1 -w d:\atr\mydos.atr were you replace 2 in your drive and d:\atr\mydos.atr in your filename-location. (w=write p=partition 1=d1) BE SURE TO HAVE THE CORRECT \\.\PhysicalDrive !!!!! YOU CAN OVERWRITE YOUR OWN HARDDRIVE IF FALSE. done on the pc.
now boot this on your atari. in theory you now boot from d1 that contains mydos. if yes, the reading is ok. try and format drive 2 (that is also present) and write dos to it. if no, there is a write issue on your interface, contact steve.

Hi Sijmen!
Here i'am ..so i made what you asked me :
sector $00000 FE 00 03 00 0F 00 3F 00 02 00 03 00 01 00 02 00 01 00 01 00 03 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 03 00 05 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ***all the rest full off "00"***
Init mode = Auto => A fix yellow frame border appears with "wait !"
Nothing happen..
In manual mode :
saved this myide setup (HD 16383 cyl, 63 sec/trk,16heads) :
d1 :720 sd and d2 : 720 sd ( or 2nd try with 65535 DD), both sd (or s and d), image mode enabled =1
With or without power ON /OFF => "Ready" Prompt , "BYE" => "HD ERROR" !
Whaterver i tried :
myidetool \\.\PhysicalDrive1 -p 1 -w a:\atr\mydos.atr ( image on floppy disk)
Write done with no error and i checked with "dos" or "mydos" commande under basic .. Nothing !
Checked again Fdisk status : "HD-ERROR !"
Do have any other ideas ?
I'll send again an email to Steve.
Thanks,
|

Hmm, I wasn't clear I see. I want to know if the problem is read or write related. So in this first step I want to write on the PC then read on the Atari. So please do not use FDISK. Instead of FDISK you do the manual setting of sector $0000 using your PC. -You have to be 100% sure the drive has 16 heads/63 sectors (cylinders does not matter)-Then copy mydos with the PC with myidetool to D1: All this bypasses writes on the atari. So done this on the PC, you have setup 2 partitions D1: and D2: D1: is written with MyDOS, D2 is untouched. Now go with this HD to your Atari and try to boot it. When it does not boot (lock up or what ever) go into FDISK. Do not setup, just report to me what the display reads. FDISK reads sector $0000 and I want to know if that is correctly read. Make a picture of the screen would be nice, thanks. Back Sunday. I also have a busy life Yeah, youtube was fun. Don't know what idiot made the subtitles, but you have an impression of me and my house. More pictures are on my homepage...... www.mr-atari.comLater, Sijmen.

Some last remarks, drive must be set as master. You have a double CF-adapter? connect the CF to the master slot Check jumpers if set correctly (5 volt. not 3.3)

I disassembled a SECAM 800XL and installed a internal MyIDE + Flash without any issues. The system boots normally once the correct connections for SECAM computers are made and I can read and write to a Transcend 512MB flash module with no problems.
I am attaching photos of the required connection points for SECAM.
Red wire - Normal connection to 74x138 pin 14. White wire - Freddie pin 38 (Signal R/W) Black wire - Freddie pin 5 (Signal o2)
If this fails you can also try connecting the white wire to Freddit 34, which is a latched 'late' version of R/W. In my tests both signals worked properly, but if the r/w and signal o2 timing on your computer is shifted slightly, this may help.
If you have all the connections correct and it still does not work you should return the module to me for a new one. I will send you the one I have installed in my SECAM 800XL now so you can be sure there are no module problems.
Steve

I don't know if it still any problem ?
I don't succeed to read ( Start key + "1 " select +"b" prompt selection + fire") MYDOS.atr file writed on my partition 1 CF.

When is works (and now it does), forget the manual setup. This was for trouble-shooting only. Powerup with shift+control+D, and run Fdisk, init -auto detect. Be sure the settings are correct. If the auto detect is wrong, use a other CF card. You can copy mydos to partition 1 on your PC. Then go back to your atari. Images (use start at powerup) needs to be setup in fdisk first. Then you can copy any amount of atr's using the -i switch (images) instead of -p (partitions) on your PC.
success and grtz, Sijmen.
