From the instructions:

"If you have set up the 'image space' on your IDE device, you can copy whole floppy disks or disk images to this area and boot them from the IDE device."

No where in heaven nor Earth does anything describe how to set up 'image space'!

I have succeeded in installing MyDos 4.53/4 to a 64MB CF, but holding START and pressing RESET only leads me back to the DOS menu.

What MyBIOS / MyIDE firmware are you running?
The standard MyIDE 3.5 or a newer MyBIOS.
Standard you have this option in FDISK, in MyBIOS the default is "ON"

But 64Mb could be to small to have image-space active.

mydos 4.53? Ok, I get the fdisk part now, but the mr. atari fdisk2 is unfriendly. I set up a few partitions on an 128mb disk ,but i need an explanation as to how the image command works...

setup slots one and two as partitions
hit (image) and pick 3
no feedback message, but drive params seem to confirm an image space exists...
"image/siz 03/05"

exit and save...

hit power, on myide menu hold start and hit 0...

machine locks up with text gibberish "0001 <CBN>

please advise

Excuse me, but did you download and read the manual?

You need to run fdisk, first activate image-space, then make logical partitions in the space left.

Time/money: MyIDE-I is obsolete since the newer user-friendlier MyIDE-][ is out.
With FAT32-access and stuff ;)

You're excused, of course. I read it, but clearly didn't understand it. Sorry that was a bit over the top. So now I have disk images working.

Great :)

Let me know if you run into other problems.
