Chapter 5: Setting Cartridge Options

Options Menu Settings

You can access the options screen at any time by pressing the "*" key on either keypad.

The settings on this screen are saved internally to the cartridge flash and apply to all cards inserted, unless overridden by a configuration INI file on the currently inserted card.

At the bottom of this screen the current Hardware, Boot, Menu and Firmware revisions installed on the cartridge are shown.

You can press '*' at any time while using this menu to save your settings and exit the options menu.

Sounds

Turns all menu navigation sounds off when set to 'Off'.

Colors

Turns off all dynamic color effects in the navigation menu when set to 'Off'

Sorting

Alphabetical sorting of "long filenames" on your SD card can consume a noticible amount of time if your directories of ROM images are quite large.

The default setting for this option is 'Quick', which should allow you to have directories of a few hundred ROM images each without encountering any signifigant delays during navigation using the on-screen browser.

You can set this option to 'Off' to completely disable the alphabetical pre-sort of directory entries during loading, however, this means that files will be presented on-screen in the order they appear on the SD card, which is normally not visible in any OS and may seem completely random.

If you absolutely must have very large directories of ROM images and want to keep this set to 'Off' to avoid loading delays, you can use a free PC utility like DriveSort to manually pre-sort entries on your SD card.

Setting this option to 'Complete' will take the longest, but result in the most accurate sorting of filenames. This option is not recommended unless you encounter problems with files appearing out of order with the 'Quick' option, as it can take many times longer than normal for a directory to appear in the browser.

Navigation Speed

This option controls how quickly the light-bar navigation used in the directory browser will react to the hand controllers.

Documents

When selecting a screen-shot or manual for a highlighted ROM image, the firmware will be default look for the 'Manuals' and 'Screenshots' directories in the system root directory, '\Coleco\'.

You can change this option to 'Subdirectories' to force the firmware to look for these directories within the currently selected subdirectory.

Disable CPU Services

Setting this to 'On' will cause the Ultimate SD Cartridge to disable any enhanced services once any ROM image has been loaded. It is recommended to leave this 'Off' unless you encounter problems.

Hide .ROM Extensions

Setting this to 'On' will cause the filename extensions of your ROM images to not be displayed in the on-screen menu.

For example if your file is called 'Lord of the Dungeon.ROM' and this is set to 'On', only 'Lord of the Dungeon' will appear in the directory navigator.

Text Color

You can change the on-screen text color used in the directory navigator using this option.

Text Background

You can change the on-screen text background color used in the directory navigator using this option.

Bar Color

You can change the on-screen lightbar background color used in the directory navigator using this option.

Bar Text

You can change the on-screen lightbar text color used in the directory navigator using this option.

BIOS Bypass

Setting this option to 'On' will cause the firmware to attempt to bypass the long game title intro delay shown when starting in most Coleco published games.

This is a beta feature, so if you experience any problems loading games try setting this option back to 'Off'.
