Got MyIDE-II up and running and dragged three files onto the Compactflash card. One was a .rom, one was an .atr, and one was an .atx. Of the three, only the .rom file was able to load and run. I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that I'm using this on an unmodded 1200XL. I have always needed to load a Translator disk to get the older 400/800 files to work since it doesn't have Basic built in.

Without doing the OS mod, is there a way to make these files run on a 1200XL? Has anyone had this problem?

Hi,

For ATR-files, you need the OSB-files in the root of your CF-card.
ATX-files (enhanced version of ATR) are not supported.

For optimum 1200XL compatibility, in respect to MyBIOS, not the FAT32-loader:
Upgrade to the beta 4.9 version of MyBIOS.
But when you don't use MyBIOS (yet), no need to do this.

Thanks for the quick response Sijmen. Now another question: Is MyBios 4.8 (or 4.9) able to provide a method for handling multiple disks? A few examples would be Seven Cities of God, Conan, Ultima III, etc.

If so, how would I go about loading and running these files?

I would suggest to upgrade to 4.9 then, since you have a 1200XL.

Multiple disks can be handled in IMAGE-mode.
Hold HELP in the welcome-page, then START, select image and press ENTER, then [C]oldstart.
You select the first disk and boot it.

Here you must copy the disks in sequence to each other.
I use the LBA_manager for this on my PC most of the time, since all my files are digital or from internet.
But coping from a real SIO-drive/SIO-PC also goes.

When you need disk 3 press/hold SHIFT+CONTROL+3 and wait for the beep and continue.
That is the principle. Please read the manual for all used HOT-keys.

But in a quick look, all the games you mention have custom loaders and will bypass the BIOS.
I have a one disk conan version I can upload if needed.

Later,
Sijmen.

P.S.
You need to getting familiar with IMAGE-mode / MyBIOS.
I included a multi-disk game for trying.

Thanks again.

I was able to install MyBios 4.9 and it appears everything is functioning properly. Now for the dumb question: I do not know how to get files into MyIDE Menu (which I think you also refer to as the image menu). I have been using the Fat32 Loader for everything so far. I was following the instructions in the manual for loading multiple files but didn't have any to chose from at the MyIDE Menu.

You need these tools for PC-usage and a card-reader.
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1592
Just unzip the manager that is the easy way (needs windows)
Download dallas-quest above, unzip.

Did you setup a MyIDE-partition? When you bought the CF from atarimax it's pre-installed.
No: take a new CF-card or your current, but backup the content to PC first.

On the ATARI, follow the manual, or just try your luck.
Load MyBIOS, HELP, HELP again, iniT, Auto, exit/save.
Half the card will be reserved for MyIDE usage, the rest for FAT.

To the PC, Format the fat32-portion and move back your files.
Windows will prompt you that the card/partition is not formatted.
Load the manager, you now see MyIDE-partitions.
Load dallas-1 in slot 1, dallas-2 in slot-2.
Done.

Back to the atari.
Use HELP then START, select slot 1 (dallas-1)
Press Enter, then Coldstart.

It needs some trying, but you will get there.
MyBIOS is for advanced users who know how the ATARI-OS works.

Grtz,
Sijmen.
