I thought I had wiped the MyDOS of my cart so I went through and blanked the cartridge. What can I do to restore it?

Oops, that does not sound good.
You wiped the MyDOS-partiton on the CF-card, not the cartridge, right?
I mean, you still get the menu when you start the Atari?

To restore MyDOS in the partition on the CF-card:
Simple follow >parts< of the QUICK-START (MyDOS).
• Boot your Atari, select the MyBIOS-F2 from the menu.
• Press SHIFT to return to the cartridge menu.
• Load “Atarimax MyDOS 4.53 Rescue Loader”
• Format D1:. Write DOS-files to D1:

Download the manual (zip-file) here.

Let me know,

Unfortunately, all that happens when I put the cartridge in my Atari 1200XL is I see a brief blue screen with a cursor, then a rainbow Atari logo on the screen, as if no cartridge is inserted. At this point I am stumped, and I have reached out to Steve (with no response) as to what to do. I am ready to return this and exchange it for the SIO device instead, since all I really wanted to do was move files off of my old floppies. Don't need to do that for games since I have the a8 app (phenomenal product) - I only want to rescue my old AtariWriter files from two floppies. My CF has files on it, but there's nothing to kick off the cartridge. Can I use one of my old DOS 2.5 floppies to write to the cartridge to at least prep it for MyDOS?

What you see is correct.
mybios has a rainbowscreen when nothing is booted.
you need to hit shift directly when you get the short welcome screenthis will bring you to the cartridge menu again.
then load the rescue loader.

steve can be busy, please be patient with him.

Not a rainbow screen - the word ATARI in flowing rainbow colors on a black screen. Are we talking about the same thing? I'll try your key combo in a bit to see if anything changes. I'll be patient - thanks.

Did not work. I'm familiar with the rainbow screen you were talking about - when I had the cart working I saw that.

Sorry, you are right, I answered last night quickly and overlooked you mentioned "Atari" too.
When the 1200XL starts with this screen, there is no valid cartridge inserted.
That means, the MyIDE-][ is indeed empty.
Just wondering how you possibly have done this.

There are some ways to get your cartridge re-programmed:
-Using a diskette or any other means over the SIO-bus
-Using the atarimax-programmer.

Reading your post (file transfer only), you are better of with a SIO2PC/USB.
This device also helps restoring your MyIDE-][
Pity you did not had the time to experience this powerful gadget.

Later,
Sijmen.

Anyway, I have attached a diskette that re-programs your cartridge.

Mr. Atari...

Thanks for the response. My thinking was that I should NOT have been able to blank the cartridge. It happened when I tried to write files to the cartridge from my floppy drive and thought I was writing to the compact flash. I ordered the SIO2PC device and will use that with my PC - I'll try your file to restore the cartridge if I don't return it instead.

Yes, you are right, you are not able to erase the cartridge except when you issue a flash-cycle or use a program.
Write access to CF does not invoke cartridge write cycles, that is in fact impossible....

So I'm puzzled here, I need to ask this (perhaps indirectly) again.

When you powerup with the cartridge inserted, do you get the ATARIMAX bootmenu?
Or do you get the 1200XL rainbow ATARI-logo, just as there is no cartridge inserted?

What happens when you powerup with any other cartridge, does that boot normally?
Like BASIC, do you get the READY prompt?

Mr. Atari...

Thanks for to continued support. I only get the letters Atari with a rolling rainbow pattern. Other cartridges work fine - I just bought an AtariWriter cart and it's fully functional. I think what happened is that MyDOS flashed the cart when I tried to write files from a floppy to the CF card. Too bad there wasn't a jumper or something I could have moved to make that portion "read-only" once I had it set up properly, which I did initially.

You can only (accidentally) erase your cartridge content when you create a test-cartridge in the diagnostic-tools.

It also specifically says "warning, do not create a test cartridge when you have no means of restoring the original content"

There is no way you can erase cartridge content by using DOS or other common Atari software.
So I am very sure you did this by accident.

Sorry that this happened to you, things do happen you know.

Grtz,
Sijmen
