I know the whole point of the cart is not needeing a floppy drive :P

But is it possible with just the MyIDE-II and a real floppy drive, tomwrote some disk images to real floppy disks..?

If so, how? :?:

Thanks!!

Hi Walter,

Yes, you can.
Depends on what firmware MyBIOS you have running though....

First Format the disk in the density needed (S,M,D)
Then Copy the Image to Floppy (<)

Grtz,
Sijmen.

Hi Sijmen, thanks for the reply

The problem is I am new to this and have no clue how to even get to that screen. I am trying to find information on how to setup the cart and card, but the only thing I see is a 5 year old video that doesn’t even match my screens.

Is there anything more current, and also for idiots like me?

In especially bad mood since I ordered 2 carts and one seems to be DOA...

Sijmen, little update in my progress. So far I have managed to:

- Using the myide menu, partition the card in two
- format the fat32 part for the loader and copy some files on a pc
- create a partition in myide/mybios which was setuo as drive 1 and can be booted
- format and coy DOS files to a physical floppy that was om a drive setup as drive 4. Setting that drive back to 1 and removing the cart and the disk boots just fine too

What I am missing now is to be ale to format the disk and copy an image to it like you showed me, and this is because when I go into the image menu, do not see any images there at all,a how do I get them there? Because I assume it cannot aee what I have in the fat32 partiton

Sorry to hear about the dead cartridge, should not happen, but we all know Murphy's law....
Have not read your other posts yet, I do them in sequence.
This one first.

Yes, the image-partition is a different area then the fat32-area.
So the partitions can not "see" each other.

The manual for the 4.8-MyBIOS:
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1310

First you need to copy some ATR-files to this space using the manager found here.
Its a tool for your PC/Windows a user wrote and its a great tool.
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1592

You need to do some reading on this tread about compatibility with windows XP upto 10.

OK.
Now you have images in this partition, you can see them and boot them.
But you want to copy them to floppy, right.
The menu is entered with START (press and hold it) when you have the boot-screen.
In theory, you should have "MyBIOS-F2 4.8.B3" read at the top of this boot-screen.

In the IMAGE-menu, you see the density of image at the end of a entry.
First format a disk in D1: with S, M, or D (D is double density, needs a enhanced drive).
Then select the image and use < to copy it from CF to SIO

Thanks, I figured it out reading posts (some of the ones you linked) and managed to get it working :)

Some of the .atr files do not seem to work, yet if copied to a real floppy they actually do work. I guess support for .atr is not really that good..?

Now that I learned some of course I want to leasrn more :P there are things I don’t understand... like...

1) what is exactly the “image area” and what is it’s relation to the rest of the mybios partition?
2) how much space does it have
3) besides this copying functionality which is great, can you tell me just a couple of lines, what do you use mybios for?
4) are the partitions we create seen as hard disks? What is the point of creating several, and why that size?

I’m sure I’ll think of somo more :D

Ah, just remembered... from the format option, what is the “M” for..? Most of the images were S, for single density? but a few were M. What’s up with that? (Also, which would be an enhanced drive? I think I tried to format one like that amd it did work. I was using a 1050

To keep the forum "clean", please do not quote me, just reply.
(I removed your quotes)

M = 130k, medium, one of the 1050 standard densities.
S = 90k, single, 810 standard and also 1050.
D = 180k, double, you need to upgrade your 810/1050 drive for this density.

Not sure about the XF551 and 3rd party drives, could be they support all 3 densities.

Size depends on the settings you have.
They are on the MyIDE screen.
Default is maximum space for images, minimum for logical drives.

Ratio fat32/Myide is about 40/60 of your card.
Where MyIDE uses 25-50% of the sector-size, because an atari only uses 128/256 bytes a sector and CF is 512 bytes/sector.

There is a lot to learn about MyBIOS, I know, but is basically a standard Atari-OS with added MyIDE-][ drivers.
and yes, not all software out-there is compatible making not working images.
once copied back to disk, they work, since myide-][ access is not needed.
(You can try MyIDE-ONLY for these programs)

Grtz,
Sijmen.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead but I am also trying to use the My-IDE II cartridge to transfer files to a floppy. I've been able to use the use the My IDE Drive Manager to get files onto the CF. Then, using "MyBIOS-F2 4.8.B3", I formatted the disk in single density. Then, using the "<" key I tried to copy a single file to the floppy, but this process runs for a very long time as if it is making an image over the entire floppy. When it is finished, I power off, remove the cartridge, load dos, and then check the disk and it says there is nothing on it and "000 Free Sectors".

What am I doing wrong?

Can you upload or p.m. me the atr you want to put on disk?
I have a look and check what to do.
It's not something I do daily... ;-)

I would just like to use this as a way to move ATR's to floppy. It isn't specific to any one file.

Ok, I just tried and it works.
I have used B3 as you do.

Steps:
Bootup, hold START, selected an image (In my case MULE in SD, density is shown far right).
Typed S and Y(es) to format D1 in SD.
Navigated to the selected image, type < and Y(es).
Some strange IO-sounds (drive configuration), then normal (read/write).
I see copied data in the menu-window and the sector counter counting up.
WAIT at the bottom.
It counts up to 2D0 and then its done, what is correct for a SD disk.

After this, the disk in D1 is bootable and has the content from the image I copied to it.

Grtz,
Sijmen.

Next question:

What is your hardware-setup you are using?

Just tried again and still when I search the floppy, it says I have no files on the disk and 000 free space. I did the steps just as you stated. I'm using an Atari 1200XL with a 1050 drive. Formatted to single density (worked fine). Then selected a 65K .atr file. When I click Y it runs for a very long time. I first get some characters on screen as it copies, but then, when it finishes and I cycle power and remove cart and load dos, it says my disk is full (I guess) and there is nothing on it.
