Hi folks,

I have a MyIDE-II cart, but my real hardware is currently 14.000km away from me... So I started playing around with emulators for different systems.

For A8, trying out Altirra and was surprised to see it supports cart like MyIDE-II. I cannot however get it to work...

I do have the MyIDE-][.bin file, and even in the "Firmware Manager" I see it, however when adding to a system I get an error under Computer--MyIDE-II stating "Missing firmware for device"

What am I doing wrong..?

It works perfectly.

You need to tell the firmware-manager that the .bin file is for MyIDE-II
After ADD and selecting the file:
In the pulldown-menu "type", you select MyIDE-II

Ah thanks, that did it. I had not really added it before, because when it just scanned my folder with the ROMS/BASIC/Etc. and said it found "x" firmwares, I thought it knew what it was.

I guess it does not detect what each thing is? Threw me off that it said it found "X" firmware files, but I guess for some it has no clue what they are.

Now I think I need to define something that would be the MyIDE-II's CF equivalent?

You can make a disk-image from your CF-card and use that.
(That is what I do).
Just pop it into a card reader and make a sector-copy.

This way, you could also write it back to CF (if needed).

Hmm well now I am 14.000 km away from my ataris and carts, so cannot do that. I do have access to the backup I made of the MyIDE-II CF contents, but it was just a file copy, not an image of the card.

picking up from the OP...

My ultimate goal is to get this working on a real 800, but for now I'm testing things with Altirra using a MyIDE-II and an XE. For the .BIN and the .ROM, I'm using 4.9.B16. When I boot Altirra, the MyBios screen comes up, but says "no MyIDE found."

So my first question is about Altirra and the Hard Drive image.

For the HD image I have used an ATR backup of MyDos 20,000 sectors. Is this the correct type of image to use? Or do I need another -- maybe an .IMG image?

This doesn't work, so I evidently have some things wrong. Assuming it is wrong, do you have a recommendation for software that will produce an image compatible with Altirra?

And one other question for today... have you ever tried in Altirra to set a MyIDE+Flash or MyIDE-II in an (Altirra) 800? That will be my next step.

Thanks.

Yes, I have tried all possible hardware emulations on Altirra.
When setup correctly, they all work perfectly.
To setup, that is sometimes a bit tricky where to tick and where to untick.
Also be carefull wat ROM images you use. Some MyBIOS roms require a matching MyIDE-][.bin
As for 1mb flash + Myide, you need to select the hardware and rom image seperately, where as MyIDE-][ has a firmware entry.

What time of HD-image you use, does not matter, all what altirra accepts works fine.
Be carefull what accellerations you tick in altirra, not all are compatible with MyIDE-I/O

Now on the real hardware side: On a A800, you need to modify the cartridge signals.
It has a different signal on the LEFT-slot O2-pin, see my previous topic how to mod and where to find images of how to.
Simple fix, cut one trace and jump it over from the right-slot (that has O2 connected on the same pin....).

Look here:

Succes !
Sijmen.

I was finally successful using 4.3i with Altirra. A couple of questions: Is there an internal version that does not have the border flashing (or a POKE to turn it off)? The border flashing is quite distracting if doing a lot of disk I/O. And was 4.3 the final version for the internal (non-flash) MyIDE's. (I know it's super old...)

I did not realize/remember that you had included FDISK2 in the 4.3i rom. That makes things easier.

If I remember correctly:
1/ shift+control+a turns it off (or on).
2/ in FDISK, you can change the optionbyte to disable flashing border IO

You can use the 4.8 MyBIOS (-RI) too with no problem.
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1318

But you need to update the partition-table by entering "Fdisk" in the new bios, do nothing and just save/exit.
That will make a copy of the table on LBA-sector-2, where MyBIOS looks for it.

Grtz,
Sijmen.
