If I load an .xex file from the cartridge, does it copy the executable to RAM? Or does it run directly from the cartridge?

All XEX files run in ram. Part of the file structure defines where in RAM the segments of the file should be placed.

Interestingly how many XEX, ATR file I found, all of them are configured for OS-B, so except one XEX, are not working on ATAR 800XL + 256kB extra memory. Is there a possibility to translate that files to use them in named ATARI ?
