Hi,
I'm hoping there are still active users around. I have two old Atari 400 systems, and my goal was to get some games working, especially the multiplayer (multijoy) games like Asteroids.
1. I have the flash cartridge and have tried writing several ATRs to the 8MBIT cartridge but I get the "This selection requires 64k RAM!" error every time I try to load them. Am I out of luck? My 400s are both just standard ones. Would a 400 with the 48K memory addition work? Should I buy an 800 or 800XE/XL?
2. I have also tried using just some XEX files, but while they load I just get garbled screens. Any tips for getting XEX files to work on the 400? Is there a setting in Maxflash Cartridge Studio that I'm missing?
Thanks for any help, Dan

Hi dan, I know for ATR-support, you need a 64k machine, so XL/XE only. XEX-files, should load, if they stay inside the 16k RAM a 400 has. Scrambling up the screen is a number one indication that it already loads into screen (upper) ram and soon will hit non existing ram. But ROM-images should normally work, so, asteroids as rom, would not be a problem. Grtz, Sijmen.

Thanks Sijmen.
Can you point me at a ROM or XEX that you think should work? I can't seem to get any to work so far.

I have browsed and zipped the 8k roms I could find. Games, Utilities, demo's and unreleased.
In theory, they should work. Since the atarimax supports or in fact is an 8k LEFT-cartridge.
Grtz, Sijmen.
