Gentlemen, hello. I recently purchased an Ultima III cartridge and my son has been playing it nonstop. He has noticed however a problem with monsters freezing in place on the screen. I found this post from a long time ago talking about this very issue:

My question to the group is: How can I reset the cartridge and/or re-flash the cartridge so he can play again? He has been crazy about it because he can't get into a particular town.

Perhaps you can contact the creator (Stephen) directly and ask for an possible update.
You can find his email-address when you search for his user-name.

Re-Flashing is easy, just download the disk-image and boot it with the cartridige in the slot.
The booted disk will erase and reprogram the cartridge.

If the cartridge has a higher priority is will prevent booting.
Then first boot the disk, the screen will ask to hot plug the cartridge and continues.
This will require some practice since inserting a cartridge like this can cause the system to lock-up/crash.

I have looked for Shawn Jefferson's email and could not find it. It looks like he may not be active anymore. If Shawn is here, please forgive me if that is not the case.

As for reflashing, I have a simple Sdrive-Max and nothing else. I read through your instructions but it didn't quite make sense. For example, the ATR files for Ultima III are two. I believe the first is the program and the second a scenario disk.

Are you referring to an Sdrive-Max in your instructions? I guess I never have tried anything with flashing before. I am willing to give it a try. I purchased the cart from videogamenirvana4 who has a store on eBay. In fact, here is the item: https://www.ebay.com/itm/204721805657

He's been a good guy to buy from. Not sure that he has the resources to re-flash however. Might you have some other advice? Perhaps another from the group? Can I flash something to a cartridge with just an ATR image?

Hello JJ,

The link in your first post, has the image you need for flashing.
In the zip file, there is one atr.
Put that on your Sdrive and boot your atari from it.

You get this screen (1).
Since the ultima cartridge does not allow a disk boot: insert your (bad) ultima cartridge now.
That will need some practice since the chance of hanging up the system is high.

But when done OK, you get the next screen (2).
Select y for erase/flash.
Wait, it takes some time, Done.

Reboot, screen (3)
