Hi there,

I recently purchased the 128-in-1 Coleco cart and love it. I'm now planning to pick up an Atari XE and would like a flash cart for it. Looking at the carts AtariMax offers, I'm a little confused.

I came here expecting to order the "Maxflash 8mbit Flash Cartridge", but then I saw "Maxflash USB Cartridge Programmer Kit". Do I need to buy both items? I don't see anything that mentions USB for the 8Mb cart, so I'm not sure if the USB programmer is a required purchase. But then there's the fact the USB programmer is listed as a new item. If that's the case, how would one use the flash cart without the programmer?

Sorry if I've missed something completely obvious here. Hopefully this can all be cleared up really easily.

The flash cartridges can be programmed in the Atari system as is. To program them on a more modern computer with a USB port, you would need the USB programmer kit.

Ah, right. I keep forgetting the XE is also a computer. I've never seen one in person that had the keyboard, so I just keep thinking it's a console.

Thanks for clearing that up!

Well, you will need an SIO2PC type device though... so you either need one of those or the USB programmer kit.

Just download and install the Maxflash Studio software.

Then when you load a workbook into the Studio software, you can click file->export and create an ATR programming image to use with your cartridge via SIO2PC.

If you have the USB programmer, you don't need SIO2PC. Just attach the cartridge and press 'Synchronize', then plug it into the Atari after programming.
