I used to be able to slow down the disk read speed in APE. I did it in the configuration menu under Misc Settings, Advanced Drive Settings and changing the setting to Slowest. Now it does not work. No matter what parameter I change, APE loads at the same speed. Certain games will not load unless the disk speed is slower. How can I fix this?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

I looked where you said, that looks OK.
Perhaps you should change the preferred rate (USB page) to 0x28 and match "disk drive rate", that is stock 19k2 IO transfer.

I am on APE v3.0.14 (registered), USB-SIO2PC

Are you by any chance running a high-speed OS in your Atari?
Or bootstrapping via a speed-loader?

Grtz,
Sijmen.

Can you ZIP and upload a game that does not run, so I can analyse it?

I just noticed, when you change "USB scheduling", this will slowdown IO.
I did not see any change (in booting times), when I change what you said.
Later.

I am on APE 3.0.13. Where did you get 3.0.14? It is not on the APE site. I am not running a high speed OS.

I just tried your suggestion: I set the preferred rate to 0x28 and match disk drive rate. Still the same problem....no change.

Concerning the USB Scheduling, this is the only parameter that actually DOES slow it down. The problem is that it slows it down way too much and the game still will not load.

I have attached the game so you can try it yourself. And thanks!

None of the registered versions are here for download. You normally must email Steve to get an updated version.

I understand that I must email Steve for the latest updates. But if updates are not announced anywhere how can users know when to email Steve for an update? On his own website, it says that the latest update is 3.0.13. How did you find out about 3.0.14?

I guess the latest freeware version is 3.0.13

As registered user I get updates by email.
Or, if I (or a user) have a request to do some modification(s).
Last mod was to support 850 modem for Plato at lower byte-rates to match the requested bitrate.

Just drop Steve an email about your problem with slowing down or matching IO.
Be patient, he is extremely busy, a reply can take a while.

I didn't had time to look at your upload, i do that today.

Grtz,
Sijmen.

Interesting, a protected disk image.
Sector 703 has a phantom sector and that is used as copy protection.
I didn't get it to work either with my APE.
Also on the emulator Altirra, known to be perfect, does not run.

Why this disk? there are images with the protection removed.
