Thank you mr-atari.
Now, how do I transfer it from XP to the Atari SD disk???
I am still waiting on the SIO2PC to come in the mail.
Any help is appreciated - thanks, Alleyne.

On the PC:
ATR to IDE.
then on the atari:
IDE to real 1050?

Thanks you mr-atari again, now all i have to do is wait for the sio2pc thing to turn up.
just a dumb question here, any thoughts on replaceing the 1050 5 1/4 with a sio to a 3.5inch floppy drive?
i have a few 3.5inch disks stored away (hundreds) from the st days.
thanks Alleyne

The only drive you van rebuild is the xf551.
You need a 720k 3.5" drive and to burn a new drive-BIOS in EPROM.
Swap drive and BIOS, ready.

About he mydos,
you have a working IDE-setup, yes (otherwise you wouldn't post here).
It's easy, use the pctool to copy the ATR to a imageslot of your choise.
Go to your atari.
Then boot your atari into image-mode
Select the slot you copied it to.
Insert a preformatted SD disk in your 1050.
Use the copy image to drive (<) character.

Later,
Sijmen.

i have a myide+flash cartridge plugged into an 800xl and a ide drive plugged into the cartridge with dos 2 it only sees the ide drive as a sd disk. i have no idea when the sio2pc thing will get here due to the floods we are having in australia.
are you saying i can plug the pc ide cable into the top of the myide+flash cartridge, copy the file then swap the cartridge back to the 800xl to get mydos on a sd disk. ??? alleyne

No no, take the IDE-media from Atari to PC and then back......

1/ Remove your IDE-media from your atari to your PC.
2/ Use the PCtool to transfer the ATR to an image-slot.
found here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=412
or (direct link) here: http://www.horus.com/~hias/atari/#myidetool
3/ Remove the IDE-media from your PC to your Atari.
4/ Boot your Atari into Image-mode (hold START).
5/ Select the image you want to copy to real 1050.
6/ Put a pre-formatted SD disk into the drive.
7/ select the < symbol for copy IDE->SIO

But you can also copy the ATR directly to logic partition D1: ofcourse.
So MyIDE directly boots into mydos.

Later,
Sijmen.

P.S. You can check the density needed by looking at he letter top right. S=SD/M=MD/D=DD)

I tried it and the 1050 needs to be D2: the other problem is floppy disks that have failed (GRRRRRR).
the disks looked good directory ok but unable to read the files on some of the disks.

Thanks

You maybe need to adjust the rpm of the drive.
It could be to low/ to high after all thoose years.
Slight chance you need to trim the MFM-modulator too.

Sijmen.

and when i make a second D2:16meg drive it over writes D1:and i loose everything?

i don't believe i'm doing anything wrong.

Don't know either from here. ;-)

fdisk only reserves space, if you ran out of diskspace, the size will be shown as 0 (zero).
space is divided like this:
cylinder 0: reserved for fdisk.
cylinder 1 - (256*n-1) for logical space, so D1.....D8
cylinder (256*n-1) - end_of_disk for image space, so only D1 in sequence, max size 1040 sectors each.
were n = the image-start number. If n = 0 the entire disk can be used for logical drives.

fdisk does not destroy data, it only allocates space for usage.

perhaps you can send a screenshot of your fdisk setting?
