Hey Folks

I've been playing with my new MyIDE + Flash cart and so far have had no joy getting things going. I've tried a couple of different IDE to CF adaptors and a number of different CF cards but when I boot the cart the device always shows up as "busy or locked". Oh, I've tried a couple of machines too, including two with different PHI2 mods.

Can anyone tell me what the significance of the LED is ? It is device access ? I turned the machine on yesterday and the LED lit solid and the machine hung at a black screen.

Any tips on getting things going?

The LED is connected to the IDE-device.
It's the standaard output for driving a drive-LED, nothing fancy.

Strange that you still have problems.
You are running the latest 3.5F with fdisk2?

Later,
Sijmen.

Hi Sijmen

Yes I believe I'm using the latest versions.

I don't usually see the LED at all so perhaps the cart can't access the IDE device?

Lets take a standaard Atari, CF-to-IDE converter and CF-card.
Keep using these for debugging, OK?

Set the two jumpers on the CF-to-IDE to MASTER and +5V
Does it has power-on-pin20 support?

Setup your Atari, with MyIDE, CF-to-IDE and CF-card.
Boot and wait for the MyIDE flashloadmenu.
Press '3' and 'b' to enter fdisk2.
Upload pictures of the atari-setup and the 2 screens

The IDE-led only lights-up when IO is done.

Later.

OK. I'm using a stock 800 XL with no mods at all.

I've attached 3 pictures, 1 of the whole kit, 1 of the CF adaptor and 1 of the FDISK screen.

In my experience, 90% of the time, "busy or locked" means "no power to the drive." Have you tried a Transcend 40-pin IDE module? On my MIO, I use a separate +5VDC regulated PS to power the Acard SCSI-IDE adapter which also powers the flash card. I've used that same setup with the MyIDE + Flash, as well as running a +5V out of the Atari. You could have a bad cart, but I really doubt it.

Here's a pic of 3.5F with built-in FDISK. Oops, the flash module has been removed to simulate no power... Oops2, there's no identification that it is 3.5F, but of course, it is...

Hmm, things are looking better with power applied to the CF adaptor. At least now I get drive ready messages. I guess the A8 PSU is not delivering enough to power it.

Thanks for the pictures.

Looking at the IDE-to-CF adaptor, there is no pin 20.
So there is no power coming in from the interface pin 20.
The text on the adaptor is wrong, this can't possibly with power from pin 20.......

I always use a female IDE-to-CF that plugs directly into the cartridge.
Never got one without the pin 20 connection here.

2$ on ebay including shipping :-)

Yeah, I didn't realise. It says on the interface "VCC from IDE pin 20" so I guess I didn't look too hard. Things still aren't quite right even after supplying power, but I've ordered one of the boards from your link and I'll wait until it arrives before trying any more. Thanks for the assistance so far!
