I am in the process of gathering the parts to build the MyIDE interface in cartridge format and want to ask if any internal wire connections are needed.
I have the 40pin IDE connector, a 74LS245N chip, a 74LS32 chip, and a 74HC04AN chip as well as the two resistors and led.
I figure I could use an IDE connector for the laptop IDE drives as I have two 1.5gig that would serve well and be able to use power from the Atari.
I just have to get the pin-outs for the drives to make sure all is connected as it should be.

But.... I sure do not want to fry the Atari PC in the process!

Nice project :-)

Look here for my original layout.

The chips will do fine I guess. I had best results with 74LS245 74F32 and 74F04.
If you have timing problems, you can add the fix in the stability thread (small delay on A0-A2).

Perhaps a 3.5"-2.5" adapter is a good item. They are really cheap on ebay.
It has a PC-power plug (+5 and ground) that you can wire to your board.

Later,
Sijmen.

I just got through wiring an Atari power supply connector to an Apple IIgs power supply that puts out a regulated 5.1 volts DC @ 3.75 amps. I then got brave and tested it on my only working atari, the 65XE. It appears to work fine, is very small in comparison to some power supplies and also has its own on/off switch as well as a 12 volt output @ 0.75 amps.
That should take care of my power supply problems as I had a rebuild-able one that failed to work even after replacing the capacitors. It was also tested very shortly on the 65XE and again, since that is currently my only working atari PC, I figured I had better not fool around too much or I might not have a working atari. That power supply showed 5.12 volts with a meter, but evidently, one of the caps may have been the problem.
Locally, I have found a 600XL with a memory upgrade and a digital video conversion along with a PACMAN cartridge and a super cartridge with a number of games all for 75 dollars.
I questioned him about the size of the memory upgrade, but have not heard back.
But it sounds like a pretty good buy to me.
I am unsure if the MAX cartridge can be reprogrammed just by using the software used to make a cartridge.
What is your opinion on that?

Not sure what you mean with MAX.
ATARIMAX? These can be reprogrammed with the appropriate software-kit.

I know I was vague as to that super cartridge and all I have to go by is the picture of the system.
So maybe this will help in identifying the cartridge type. It is the one to the left.

I went ahead and bought the system and the cartridge in question turned out to be a MaxFlash 1mbit cartridge that I have reprogrammed a few times now using ATR programming images made with MaxFlash Studio. And to answer specifically your question, the bootup screen of the games had MaxFlash as part of the header. I have been unable to rename the header in Studio. But that is Ok as long as the games and roms on the cartridge work.

No the 1mb is not a upgrade of the base-memory.
It's for the cartridge-slot.
Also not RAM, its a eeprom.

But you can easily expend the 600xl internally.
You need two 4464 (64kx4 dram) chips and some wires.
Google for 64k upgrade 600xl and you will find the how-to-do-it.

Later,
Sijmen.
