Which version of the MyIDE would "find" a real compatible OS in rom/eprom (if present) and use that OS rather than installing a ram OS? Was it one of the 3.5's? Maybe I'm dreaming, but I seem to remember that one version of the cartridge MyIDE did that -- looking for an external OS in Rom.

Only the internal MyIDE's have a modified OS on EEPROM.

All cartridges load a RAM based OS into the atari.

Hi Sijmen-

Thanks, I must have been confusing this with something else. Too bad, although the ram OS's work quite well.

Hi Sijmen-

Hmmm... Now I'm confused.

In this thread: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1031
you say the following:

>You have 4.3E as internal BIOS and run a maxflash cartridge.
Oh, ok, I forget. :-)

The 4.3E has higher priority over the 3.5F in the external cartridge.
But that is no issue, since 4.3E and 3.5F are compatible except for 1 thing.
3.5F supports 8 partitions defined by FDISK, were as 4.3E only supports the first 3 (!) entries in FDISK.

(snip...)

Later,
Sijmen. <

When I by chance read that thread, I pulled out a 4.3e eprom and booted my 3.5F cartridge. It boots correctly and says "4.3e" on the boot screen. So is this as I thought -- the MyIDE cart uses the actual eprom or is the boot screen in error and it is actually a RAM OS? Please "unconfuse" me. :?

Thanks,
Larry

When you have 4.3E installed as BIOS, this is the real OS in ROM
the cartridgeloader will see the better OS and not install 3.5F into RAM-area.
So in that case, you have a real OS in ROM.
(128k cartridge-memory wasted or to be used differently)

OS in RAM: loaded from cartridge (3.5F) or from floppydisk (last versions were a longggg time ago: 3.1 I / 3.1 E)
(with the introduction of the 128k flashmemory and my new bootloader, the boot from disk option is virtual obsolete.)
OS in ROM: all internal MyIDE /w flashrom
OS in ROM: 16k EPROM with 4.3E to drive a myide-cartridge (flashmemory is bypassed)
OS in ROM: 16k EPROM with 4.3I to drive a internal 'home-brew' myide-interface

Hope this clears a bit.....

Later,
Sijmen.
