I bought the cart with the transcend module, and want to use CF now, I know i need the adapter, found this part easy (has jumper for pin 20), but I'm having a problem with picking out the actual memory, whats the minimum speed rating thats needed and whats the size limit for using one on a cart.

One other thing I need to know is, I have a 800xl and I'm going to put the 32 in 1 OS Warp in along with the cart, would this all work with the 800xl if it's been upgraded to 256k with a newell upgrade. I should of probably asked before I went and spent the 8 hours desoldering out all the chips and replacing every chip on the board with a socket, man how I wish I still had a early 800xl version, lol.

There isnt a minimum speed rating, you pretty much have your choice of cards. If in doubt go with lower speed, it will cost less for the same amount of storage.

I'm not sure what the absolute upper limit is, maybe Sijmen can chime in on that.

Yes, the 256k upgrade should not interfere with either the Warp+ OS upgrade or the MyIDE interface.

Hi,

CF-card should normally work, although (here in europe) some brands have problems with PAL-consoles.
My favourite card is Transcend (the same brand as your IDE-module).
With the IDE-to-CF adaptor it's plug and play, same as it now is.

Maximum size is a card of 32Gb for the current 3.5F or 4.3I/E MyIDE-OS.
(65535 cylinders, 16 heads, 63 sectors)

Speed does (in principle) not matter. But when you want to show of MyIDE-movies, you do not
want to buy a standard one. Mine is 1Gb 80 speed and works perfectly. I tested some standard
cards do lack of speed and movies run slower then they should.

Cheers,
Sijmen.

I have a 32GB Transcend CF Card attached to MyIDE interface cartridge plugged into an 800XL with 32-in-1 Warp OS.
I set up three 16MB partitions as D1:, D2: and D3:
Question 1 - Is all of the remaining space on the 32GB card available for image space?
Question 2 - Is there a limit on the number of separate ATR files that I can write into image space?

You need to activate image-space in FDISK (3.5 / 4.3 users)
In the latest BIOS image-mode is always on.

You can put one ATR in one slot.
But you can reserve space for MD-disks (or smaller) or SD only.

But 32Gb is a hell lot of space :-)

The newer BIOS also supports fat32-loading....

Does fat32 loading allow for storing more programs within the same amount of memory space?

The fat32-loader is a loader. Called Side.
Side is a 3rd party software used with permission.

It loads from a fat32 formatted partition, containing files saved on a PC.
Nothing more. Just a nice gadget :)

The new BIOS init's a card for dual usage (if possible on that media, and CF is).
Fat32 (needs to be formatted on a PC before use) and MyIDE.
