I have a CF in 512Mo of Firstline mark with bas sector with scan with Myide scandisk.bas.
If I scanne with Windows or dos or linux, it has no bad sector, why there? thank you.

Hi,
I had the same problem. I cleaned everything then re-solder some wire jumpers for power, and then change from external power to internal power and my bad sectors were good sectors. I can use all three of my CF cards with pin 20 power, but not with external power source. :D

Good Luck!

Hi Roy-
Interesting. What were you using as the external PS? I switched to internal power also, but really never noticed any differences. (Mostly switched to get rid of another cord on my desk!) I am still using the interface power connector. Are you using the regular "3-LED" interface that is pictured under the "media compatability" post or something else?

Hi,

I was using a small power supply out of an old Apple external scsi box similiar to the Iomega that powered a 88 meg diskette optical media. Salvaged when I went to a regular hard drive with the blackbox interface.

The foot print for my Atari set up use to be about 2 foot by 2 foot now I have it down to just the 130XE with internal CF card. my PC for APE interface and VGA monitor/with an adapter to convert composite to VGA. Start APE switch to Composite and view my Atari desktop.. I think mostly good clean power source and good solder joints helped me the most..

I use one of those with the Flashcart, but mostly I'm using a built in CF adaper mounted in the XE with a slot machined in back to slide the CF card in and out.. pin 20 power. I have almost retired my Flashcart. I will probably convert it to internal for my XEGS in the game room..

Please specify your interface:
Atarimax,
Ken Jones XL/XE-kit,
homebrew.

Cheers,
Sijmen.

I do not think it's fair to report bad media with a homebrew interface.

IDE-devices are very timing sensitive and bad timing from the (homebrew) interface makes it to work "bad".

What chips/setup did you use?

Using LS chips is not good. You get a IDE-device dependent rev 3.0 PCB i made at first.

I released a DIY update + IC's to eliminate/improve this probblem:
-replace the 74LS32 and 74LS04 by 74F32 and 74F04
-leave the 74LS245 unchanged.

This update is the 3.1 interface, now produced and sold by Ken Jones.

Please perform this update and then report back how your CF-card performs.

Cheers,
Sijmen.

P.S. For information: The interface from Atarimax uses GAL-logic with 15-20ns gating.

Thank you. In fact, it was right a test with PCB with 2 chips (74LS245 and 74LS00). I did not have any more a 74HCT00 for my test it remained to me only the LS, next time. I must to also be useful me about it for the 1 chip and that will make similar.

I tested with 74LS245 et 74F00, it's ok with my two CF - no bad sector.
I want to teste with 74F245.
