I got some Speedy 1 gig CF cards and I'm trying to set one up. If I do the Auto detect I get cyl: 01792 heads: 5 sectors: 4. How do I know if that is correct? It shows the size as 35800 when making a 65535 partition for the first one.

I seem to be able to format it but I when making a second or third partition, they always show 000000.

I'm using 3.5F.

Hi,

First I would like you to check the card with a PC/cardreader.
Fdisk has problems detecting the card, so it may be defective/incompatible.

Size of a 1 gig card should be: ~2000 cyl, 16 heads, 63 sectors.
[2000 x 16 x 63 x 0.5k=1008000k (1Gb)]

The 1792 seems about right. The rest not.

About FDISK:
The size shown is 35800 (atari) sectors. When you use them all for
the first partition the next will be zero in size.
You can also ignore the errors FDISK has and set the parameters by hand.
1792C 16H 63S seems to be ok.
[You can calculate the Cylinders from your PC cardreader]
[Devide the given LBA-sectors by 16 and 63 and round it down]
But remember, errors with FDISK, indicate a non-reliable medium!

Cheers,
Sijmen.

Thanks Mr. Atari

Everything seems to work using those settings. 2 more questions. I made 5 16 meg partitions. 2-6. When I setup imaging what cylinder do I start with? 256?

And lastly, I have some 1 meg atr images, can I use them or are they 2 big?

If I remember correctly, FDISK will set image-space automatically correct.
(That is the way I programmed the last version)

You use 66 cylinders for each 16M paritition (65535/16/63=66).
Total 5x66=330 cylinders used.
Images must start at a 256 cylinder boundary, so the answer = 2

Maximum size for a image is asked by Fdisk.
SD or MD (720 or 1040 sectors minimum).
The actual size will be #cylinders each image x heads x sectors (in your case 2015 sectors)

But all is also explained in the manual.......
