Hi André,

I got your email too :-)
But I will reply here, ok?

Well, nice to see somebody to try my first IDE-port from 1999 again.
I have to dig myself, this has been a long long time.....
-The Atari has no knowledge about IDE-port, so to use it, you need to have drivers.
The drivers I made are copied into the 16k RAM under the BIOS.
Unfortunately a 600XL has no 16k RAM under the BIOS, so you need to burn a 16k EPROM.
(Unless your 600xl has 64k installed).

-The interface is just a interface, nothing more, so a signal-bridge between IDE-devices and the Atari.
I designed a specific layout, were "disks" are stored, this layout is called MyIDE.
This layout is done with FDISK.BAS

Its not easy to setup for the first time, because you need to do a special sequence to get it to work.
Please follow the quick manual, that will bring up a working system.
(use the link you have and then the 3.1 setup, that is what I released back then)

OK, I am going to dig further, for as I can remember I did an update into the newer MyBIOS that supports the old 3.1 interface (you build).
This update has a build-in FDISK and some more user-friendly menu's.

Back later, need to refresh my memory.....
Sijmen.

OK, I'm back.
I asume you connect the interface to $D1xx.
My last update that also works on the 3.1 MyIDE-setup/port is:
MyBIOS 4.8.05 -RI
That is for the 600XL since it has only 16k.

Best is to use the quick guide and I talk you through if needed.
The manual is in the first post, same topic.

No problem.

64k is OK, then you do not need the EPROM.
But with the EPROM, your system has IDE-drivers in ROM and is more compatible.

I normally take the 6502 and LS138 out and solder the wires ontop to the sides, than put it back.
One wire goes to the LS138 (pin for port $D1xx), the rest to the CPU.
It is safer to use $D1xx then $D5xx, since some cartridges uses this port for bank-switching etc.

This was called back then, the internal MyIDE.

If you have no media to load data to the atari, then you must use a sector copier and copy
the needed stuff directly to your CF-card, using a PC. Not easy, but I help you out.

The 3.1 version uses 2 disks, so that is no use to you.
The 4.3 version (EPROM) has FDSIK build-in, but has limited support, it's MyIDE-only and you can not use a "fat-loader" as such.....
The 4.8.05 or I make a "new" beta-version 4.8.0A -RI will be the best solution and one I know how to work with.
You need to copy the MENU separately with a sector copier to your CF, but that is easy to do.
Windows XP is the simplest way, Windows 8/10 has some issues with direct CF-access, but we will see.

After all is setup and running, you can easily transfer atari-disks from/to myide with the lba2_myide-manager.

Please note the remarks about windows 8/10.

Grtz and we talk after Monday.

Also you need a IDE-to-CF adapter (very very cheap on ebay/china).

And a CF-card.
I prefer the "older" 5 volt cards (so not the newer 3.3/5volt).
Transcend CompactFlash 1Gb 80x -always- works.
Also cheap on ebay/china.

I have bad experience with Kingston cards.
And SD/SDHC-to-CF-adapters (if you want to use SD instead of CF).
For PC-usage they are OK, but in the Atari they are not stable.

OK, lot of talking, see you later!

You can change the .nl in the URL to your country ;-)

600XL:
U 10 = CPU
U 1 = LS138
U 3 = OS-16k (any 27c128 will do fine)

In the 600XL all chips are on sockets :-)

Any old CF-card will do fine, size should be 256Mb minimum to setup MyIDE and FAT32 together on the same CF.

Yes, go directly to MyBIOS 4.8.05-RI

Well back after the forum registration problem!!

It is a pity my previous messages were deleted too but today I will try to install the homemade MyIDE.

I will need just some guidance how to make the software run on my XL as I don't have any other way to input files on it.

Do you have anything connected to the SIO-bus?

How experienced are you with the atari XL computer?
I mean, do you know how to work with it, load and save your work on a diskdrive?

If you have nothing attached, you need a sector dumper to store the menu-files to your drive.
This is the alternative way if you have no SIO-device to run the SETUP-disk.
Burn the MyBIOS on a 16k EPROM and put that in.
Boot and press start+select+option to enter the partition software/menu.
Follow the quick guide: Init (auto), make partitions, save (yes), done.

On the PC use the myide-manager-lba2 to transfer between myide-partition and your pc.

If you want to use SIDE only, just format the fat-area (on PC) and copy some XEX-files to it.
On the Atari, you can load them using SIDE from the bootmenu.

Not easy the first time to setup, but it is doable.
Most problems are with the chicken-egg dilemma, what was first....

I attach the files here later.
Have to compile them for you, freshly.

In the manual, you have the -RI version.
The MENU goes to sector 40 (decimal) and up, its 16k, so 32 sectors long.
The SETUP-disk will copy it for you to CF, otherwise use a sector-tool on your PC and copy the MENU.bin file to CF

Tested quickly and looks fine.
I had a week to prepare myself for your question ;-)
Had to dig deep into my memory....
