I figure everyone knows this, but it is worth posting anyhow.
In late Feb. '96, some financial officer of Atari Corp. announced
that Atari was proposing a merger with JTS. JTS officers would
control Atari (i.e. the Tramiels would not be in control of
Atari). Atari stock would represent 60% of the merged company,
meaning, I guess, that Atari stockholders would be the majority
in the newly merged company. JTS biggies are Tandon and
Seagate guys (the 'T' and 'S' in JTS, I guess.) I don't know
if JTS still makes Tandon and Seagate drives, I don't think so.
Atari stock on the AMX went up following the announcement some.
>From about 2 to a little over 3 in a few days. There is no
idea what JTS would do with Atari, at least as far as I know.
It seems the Tramiels are trying to the best they can for
Atari stockholders, as the stock did go up after this.
Atari Games video arcade is a separate company. Now, there
are probably copies of official announcements which could
be informative, and I did some guessing, but I think what
I said is basically correct and that this info is Atari
news.
